<a href="">Kathleen</a>

I am assuming you have IIS and Remote Desktop Web Connection installed, and properly configured, since remote desktop is only accessible from your LAN without the web interface. (BTW, for security sake, change your IIS port to something other than 80 if you haven't already)

OK, return everything including your remote desktop port to DHCP, and default settings. What you are most likely having is a NAT problem. Your IIS port (80 unless its non-default) is not tunneled most likely. After restoring all changes, set a NAT forwarding rule for port 3389 and whatever your IIS port is.
your remote desktop should be available at {yourRoutersPublicIP} : {YourIISPort} / tsweb/

(without the spaces, yahoo doesn't let me type in normal web addresses)
You will need to use Internet Explorer to access this address, it uses ActiveX, and when all is said and done, don't forget to lock down on your network security, and choose very secure passwords.

If all that fails, test your connection by disabling your router firewall, and enabling static IP passthrough for your host PC. This will completely eliminate the NAT. This is an incredibly dangerous thing to do however, so make sure your software firewalls are up, and properly configured. Now (from elsewhere) try to establish a connection to your house's WAN IP address on the port you are using. if this works, you just need to disable your static IP, and reconfigure your NAT. Keep in mind that for the Web based, not LAN, remote desktop, you will need both ports forwarded, your IIS port, and 3389.

This is kind of confusing, so contact me if you need more help.

windows comes with a Remote Desktop Connection software that will allow you to "remote" into a different computer. It's usually found under Programs > Accessories > Communications or go to Start > Run and run "mstsc.exe"

<a href="">Glenda</a>

Windows XP has a tool called Remote Desktop that is installed with windows. I don't know how your network is set up, but if you have administrator access to the client computer you can use this built-in tool.

Here are some instructions:

Here's how it is used in Vista (yuck):
