Venom asked: Ok, here it go’s. I travel quite a bit. I would like to remote desktop into my home computer when I am in another state or just traveling in general. Now, I can remote Desktop just fine on my home network, which is very convenient, but I need to access my home computer from wherever I am at. Now, I have read many online tutorials, and I have modified my router and used port 3389 and made sure that I was on the list for access in the remote tab.
However, I still cannot connect. Some people state I need a vpn or another peice of software. Well, how do I do this? how do I just open remote desktop in windows, put in my computer and sign on? Anyone with the know how and the knowledge, PLEASE, show me how to set this up properly. It would be great and a huge help for me personally.
So what do I do, how do I set this up properly? What is the correct procedure? Do I need a vpn? How do I set that up? Do I need to go through a website? I just need a tutorial that really explains what I need to do to get it done.
Ok, to clarify. I have my ports forwarded. Which is why I said I have 3389 setup.
Say my IP is 192.168.4.2. I have made that IP my static IP and I have my port forwarded to this IP. Is this correct, as this is how I have set up. Now, I go to a site that gives me my IP, say 44.123.1.44, now, I should be able to type that IP in and connect to my comp, but I cannot that is the issue, it states “this computer can’t connect to the remote computer”. Any ideas? I feel like I am missing a step here…but from every tutorial I have read…it seems correct.
I do not have any firewall on. Also, I have put an exemption for the remote desktop, just in case.
What could be the issue, of me not connecting? I am frustrated beyond all means…well, that is an exaggeration…but still…is it frustrating.
